Nonsense + chatter – non-binding exchange on the topics of freedom, globalization and more
The Heinrich Heine university group of the Düsseldorf Education Service meets regularly to get to know each other and to discuss. Students and interested non-students of all disciplines are cordially invited! Please register in advance at: HHU@aufklaerungdienst.de

We are students at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and would like to offer students and non-students – regardless of their subject – a platform to exchange views on major issues in philosophy, religion, science or politics. We don’t want to proceed like a classic debating club, in which a question or assertion is first asked and then all participants are divided into two groups: some for, others against. We are of the opinion that this rigid dichotomy does not do justice to many complex issues, especially as some might be forced to represent a position that they would not actually subscribe to in this exclusivity (for/against or yes or no). Instead, we design our moderated meetings as relaxed, informal rounds of discussion, such as those that take place in podcasts or among friends, family members or work colleagues. They should not revolve around specific individual questions (should this or that measure be decided? Was/is this or that decision correct?), but rather more general subject areas, which we then explore together in all their different aspects. We do not intend to finish – e.g. B. by voting – to have clear answers and a definitive result that convinces everyone, but we think we’ve achieved our goal if you (should this or that measure be decided? Was/is this or that decision correct?), but about more general subject areas, which we then explore together in all their different aspects. – thinks about your own opinion (why do I actually think this way and not otherwise? Can my opinion stand up to a critical examination?)
– gets to know other people’s points of view and at least put up with their expression without unobjectively attacking those who think differently
– trains a logical, understandable train of thought to develop and present.

None of these activities are self-evident. But we think they are extremely valuable for developing one’s character and keeping a democratic society going. We hope you too.

On January 10th, we’ll be exploring freedom, globalization and more.
